O Cursed, Blessed Blindness
That keeps us from seeing You, our God
Until we are ready to accept—
Bless, bless we greatly Your mercy
And kindness of that veil o’er our eyes.
For You spare us from condemnation
Of knowingly rejecting You until
Aided by Your grace, our choices
To love bring us to where we can
Hear You gently knocking
    at our inner door,
Or else, finding ourselves
    beyond our means, we fling
Open wide that door and call upon Your name.

O Blessed, Cursed Blindness
That keeps us from seeing You, our God
Until full ready to answer “aye”—
Cursed, cursed grievously we that hour
When in our hearts we came to ask,
“Why, Heavenly Father, Why, Dear Jesus,
Couldn’t I see You, and how long
Have You stood there knocking, when I thought
Myself alone and needed You?

O Cursed Blindness!  God, this veil
From tabernacle of my heart tear
And make it Your true temple always—
Never leave me nor hide Your face again
In clouds of darkness veiling mystery—
Let me know Your majesty.

O Blessed Blindness!  Holy Spirit guide,
You draw me deeper into God’s heart.
I hear my Shepherd’s voice and follow Him—
Blindfolded, trusting, my heart open wide,
My temple, no longer barren.

A poem I was inspired to write last week while in the adoration chapel, completed after 3 drafts. Thank and praise You, Jesus! I had been wishing to express what I understand God's heart to be regarding this subject, I just did not know He was going to let me do it in poetic form! Hope it blesses you, have a wonder-ful day! -Debra

Sometimes I wonder if I am blind. There are days where I would love to believe in some kind of afterlife, but I just can't put the pieces together and see it as factual. But if there are those who get the most out of life through that belief system, that's all I need to know. :)
