Causal Tenacity Of Character

There is a Successories motivational poster which contains these words: "Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Choose your words, for they become actions. Understand your actions, for they become habits. Study your habits, for they will become your character. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny."

I named this fractal after the concept that the character we choose to have, which is based on our past and present choices, shapes our future. I do not believe in destiny as some force outside ourselves. I believe we make our destiny by the kind of person we are, by how we respond to the choices before us, which is a consequence of how we think, what we care deeply about, and what we are willing to sacrifice and work hard for, plus the preparation of our life experiences.

Heroes aren't born overnight, they are just revealed overnight when the right circumstances and situations occur, that require or allow them to step into a role that maybe no one else would have chosen to. Heroes often say "I only did what anyone would have", but the ordinary person who hears that modest denial wonders, "would I have done the same?" May we each wish to become the type of person who would be willing to make the heroic choice, risk, or shouldering of responsibility for their neighbors (the public good), and pray God help us to make the choices each day which draw us in the right direction.
